LEBANESE AMERICAN UNIVERSITY - BEIRUT CAMPUS SAGESSE HIGH SCHOOL (GIRLS) & COLLEGE DU SACRE CŒUR (BOYS) DESERVING VOLLEYBALL WINNERS IN LAU'S 10TH ANNUAL HIGH SCHOOLS INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT LAU's 10th Annual High Schools Invitational Sports Tournament successfully concluded on Saturday December 20, 2008 with the volleyball finals and table tennis tournament. Over 200 of the most talented high school athletes from the following high schools ACS, IC, CPF, CIS, St. Famille, Notre Dame de Jamhour, Sagesse High School, College du Sacré Coeur, MLS, Jesus & Mary, Lycée Abdel Kader, Notre Dame des Anges, Universal College Aley, International School Choueifat & Elite competed in all or some of the different events, namely, boys and girls volleyball, table tennis, tennis, and swimming. All the matches were played with the highest spirit of fair play and sportsmanship, and the players enjoyed the competition and appreciated the opportunity of competing at LAU. In girls’ volleyball, SHS, not considered among the favorites, played some good and entertaining volleyball and defeated one of the favorites, IC, twice, including the final (2 - 1) to win the tournament. While in the boys’ final, College du Sacré Coeur, hot favorites, played up to expectations and also defeated IC 2 – 0 to take the title. In swimming, IC, SHS, CPF, NDJ, and MLS, shared the spoils. In table tennis, 14 girls and 18 boys competed for the honors. Pamela Genno from Ste Famille won the girls’ tournament; while Mohamad Rifai from LAK triumphed in the boys’ category. For the 1st time tennis was introduced to the tournament. Fourteen boys and three girls competed for the top honors. In the girls’ division, Razane Marrach (CIS) took 1st place, Reine Alameh (CPF) took 2nd and Tamara Jurdi (IC) 3rd place; while in the boys’ division, Majd Marrach (CIS) took 1st and his brother Karim Marrach took 2nd. After the respective finals, trophies and medals were distributed to all the winners by the LAU Athletic Coordinator. For your kind perusal, I have enclosed the complete results.
